Solitude

Paradise is mine
as I walk down the lane
in my mind's company.

Birds sing to me
in sweet words I don't understand.
I need no-one else.

Do not pity me
for I am happy by myself.
I need no saving.

Nothing else compares
to the worlds dreamed up
within my stormy brain.

But you will never know.

Because no-one listens to the sound
of bare feet dancing
alone on the sands of time.

Life has passed me by

Green meadows beckon to me
As I make my way to work.
I haven't the time to stop.
For life might pass me by.

Russet leaves fall around me
As I look out my hospital window.
I haven't the time to watch.
For life has passed me by.

Invisible

Merchants sell candy
to well-heeled kids on city streets.
Bare feet walk past - carefully ignored.

Paradise is

Paradise is
A book that tickles your mind
Reminiscing about the good old days
An aha moment
Dreams that won't let you sleep
Ideas that hit you like a brick
Swimming underneath the stars
Eden is right here, if only you know where to look

Life, as I see it.

Why so serious?
It's not that complicated-
really not that big a deal.
This thing we call life
is nothing but a quest.

A quest for what?
Glad you asked!
For here I shall reveal to you
the meaning of life as I know it.
It is happiness.

To be happy is to be alive,
for every moment spent unhappy
is a moment wasted-
An opportunity for joy lost,
A part of this short, precious life squandered.

Perhaps that was too dramatic.
To be perfectly honest,
Life is nothing but an accident of chemistry.
So here's my philosophy-
Why not enjoy it while it lasts?

Daydreams

The Mind wanders, as Man wonders
And Imagination roams free.
To a world of fancy and fantasy
To temporary insanity

Many a great idea was born here,
Many an hour wasted.
Many a fear met and conquered,
The thrill of adventure tasted.

In this realm of dreams, I reign supreme
Don’t pull me out of my reverie
For here I fly, oh, so high
And the rules don't apply to me.

Caged

A Haiku is a poem that gives to the reader a glimpse of a scene. The rest is left to interpretation. It generally, though not necessarily, contains three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables.

Here is my first attempt.

Birds soar as moonlight
shines through the bars of a cage
locked from the inside.
